Frequently Asked Questions About Dengue in English and Filipino

June is Dengue Awareness Month in the Philippines and June 15 is ASEAN Dengue Day. Here in Pinaymom, we would like to share to you the Frequently Asked Questions About Dengue we received from Department of Health.

Question: What is Dengue?

Answer: Dengue is an infection caused by the virus carried by female mosquitoes Aedes aegypti and Aedes altropicus. This disease is seen in tropical regions of the world as well as in countries in Southeast Asia.

A. aegypti can be identified by the white and black stripes on their body. These mosquitoes are usually bites between 6:00 to 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. night.

A. aegypti mosquitoes usually live and nest in clear water. Exposed containers outside your homes can be filled with water when it rains it makes a breeding site or nest of mosquitoes.

DENV I, DENV2, DENV3 and DENV4 are types of dengue virus that can cause dengue fever and dengue hemorrhagic fever.

Q: What are the symptoms of Dengue?

Answer: The virus is transmitted to humans through the bite of a mosquito called Aedes aegypti.
Symptoms of dengue include the following:

● sudden high fever that can last from two (2) to seven (7) days
● joint and muscle pain
● weakness
● skin rashes
● stomach ache
● nosebleeds when the fever begins to subside
● vomiting
● dark colored poop
● difficulty breathing
● pain behind the eye

Q: How can Dengue be prevented?

Answer : We all have a responsibility to prevent dengue and other infections diseases. Let’s adhere to the following to prevent dengue:

● Remember the 4 o’clock habit where the community is encouraged to look for water
containers where mosquitoes can infest and destroy or overturn.
● Always remember 4S:

○ Search and destroy mosquito breeding places. Sweep and destroy the
○ infested with mosquitoes.
○ Self protection. Self protect against mosquitoes.
○ Seek early consultation. Go to the nearest hospital immediately to avoid it
○ the pain worsened
○ Support fogging/spraying only in hotspot areas where increase in cases is registered for two consecutive weeks to prevent an impending outbreak.

Sagot : Ang dengue ay isang impeksyon na sanhi ng virus na dinadala mga babaeng lamok na Aedes aegypti at Aedes altropicus. Ang sakit na ito ay makikita sa mga tropikal na rehiyon sa mundo katulad ng sa mga bansa sa Timog Silangang Asya.

Makikilala ang A. aegypti sa mga puti at itim na guhit sa kanilang katawan. Ang mga lamok na ito ay kadalasang nangangagat sa pagitan ng 6:00 hanggang 8:00 ng umaga at 4:00 hanggang 8:00 ng gabi.

Karaniwang naninirahan at namumugad ang mga lamok na A. aegypti sa malinaw na tubig. Ang mga nakalantad na mga lalagyan sa labas ng iyong mga tahanan ay maaaring maipunan ng tubig kapag umuulan ang ginagawang breeding site o pugad ng mga lamok.

Ang DENV I, DENV2, DENV3 at DENV4 ay mga klase ng dengue virus na maaaring magdulot ng dengue fever at dengue hemorrhagic fever.

Tanong: Anu-ano ang mga sintomas ng Dengue?

Sagot: Ang virus ay naililipat sa tao sa pamamagitan ng kagat ng lamok na tinatawag na Aedes aegypti.
Ang mga sintomas ng dengue ay kinabibilangan ng mga sumusunod:

● biglaang mataas na lagnat na maaaring tumagal mula sa dalawa (2) hanggang pitong (7)
araw,
● sakit sa kasukasuan at kalamnan
● panghihina
● rashes sa balat
● sakit sa tiyan
● pagdurugo ng ilong kapag ang lagnat ay nagsisimulang humupa
● pagsusuka ng kulay na kape
● madilim na kulay na dumi
● kahirapan sa paghinga
● pananakit sa likod ng mata

Tanong: Paano maiiwasan ang Dengue?

Sagot: Lahat po tayo ay may responsibilidad upang maiwasan ang dengue at iba pang nakakahawang
sakit. Ating sundin ang mga sumusunod upang makaiwas sa dengue:

● Tandaan ang 4 o’clock habit kung saan hinihikayat ang komunidad na maghanap ng mga
lalagyanan ng tubig kung saan maaaring pamugaran ng lamok at sirain o itaob.
● Lagi tandaan ang 4S:

○ Search and destroy mosquito breeding places. Suyurin at sirain ang mga
○ pinamumugaran ng mga lamok.
○ Self protection. Sarili ay protektahan laban sa lamok.
○ Seek early consultation. Sumangguni agad sa pinakamalapit na pagamutan para hindi
○ lumala ang sakit
○ Support fogging/spraying only in hotspot areas where increase in cases is registered for two consecutive weeks to prevent an impending outbreak.
