American Women’s Club of the Philippines Bazaar
This month the American Women’s Club of the Philippines (AWCP) bazaar will be hosted at the SMX Convention Center on December 10, 2019. At the Halls 1-2, meeting room 14 from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.
This is a social organization who aims to welcome and guide newcomers and their families in the country, develop the members’ knowledge and understanding of the local community and build opportunities for its members to enrich their experience while living here with the help of community service charity projects.
AWCP History
During the mid-1978, Ann Murphy, wife of the American Ambassador at that time, arrived in Manila. This time she was surprised to gain knowledge that there is no club hosting American women in the country. In this lieu, she and her close ties, who are enthusiastic, talented and hard-working women, organized and formed the American Women’s Club of the Philippines. The first meeting was done in 1979. On April 23, the group of officers was voted at the Makati Sports Club.
Ever since its start, the basic group of the AWCP was not altered, though it has grown through the efforts of its different members. The starting goals of guiding newcomers and allowing a meeting place for American women remained as part of AWCP mission. The club also helps the local population with its various community service projects.
With the passing of years, these American women, as well as the spouses of American citizens maintain new friendships as they cooperate to build a better AWCP. The group is known as an inclusive organization and welcomes foreign newbies from anywhere in the globe to the country.
Every year that pass, new activities are formed and the groups’ involvement in the Filipino community heightens. Also, the group is proud to be part of such a lively and enriching organization.
AWCP Meetings
The club also holds quarterly meetings that showcase socializing opportunities to meet new members, to enjoy learning from different guest speakers and to be upbeat on the newest club activities. The group is present in meetings while enjoying a cup of coffee and getting friendly with friends old and new. There are two luncheon meetings and two morning meetings along the year. Also, there is a charity raffle.
Community Service
Ever since its formation, AWCP has helped in a number of charities throughout the country. The group is proud that they are able to lend care to charities who help in livelihood missions, educations and housing for children, sustainability projects, medical missions and many more. In the past, the group already have given help in giving basic toiletries to those who needs, supplying books for schools, giving shelter for those in need, building schools and many more.
Activities
AWCP hosts a list of weekly and monthly activities which is open for every active person. There are holiday get-togethers for children, tours throughout the country, a golf group, a monthly book club, coffee mornings for the presentation of new members, weekend socialization events, game nights, socialization lunches in the city and etc. The activities cater to all tastes of guests.
